Avalanche

Avalanche. MST1104 color, 1978 disaster movie. Most similar to San Francisco International. Would probably be a great double feature.  I really don’t understand the point of the liquid video kingachrome stuff. I’m not bothered by it just don’t get it, like Gypsy coming in and out of the theater. But let’s focus on the movie! It’s ok but not great. Honestly, the 70s, 80s movies are my least favorites. Sure there are exceptions, but this wasn’t one. It was solid I guess, not without laughs. Plot is: very hetero man’s man Rock Hudson opens a big ski resort on top of an unsafe bunch of snow. Then the snow kills everybody including his mom. But Mia Farrow, his ex wife survives. It’s a lot of bullshit. Really not much plot. Vague environmental message, I guess. Very bad clothes. Very 70s. The ice skating stuff fits in exactly as well as it does in the James Bond movie A View To A Kill. The movie does look good. But, the 70s, 1978, were just kinda gross. Mia Farrow also gross. I hate her in this, but I hate everyone in this. But it’s been funny. The avalanche starts about 50mins in. The riffing is a little bit too dense at times. No big deal. Rock Hudson seems like a jerk in this too. It’s a top tier episode, not super high, but it’s still top tier.

Rewatch as 2nd half of a double feature with Rifftrax Icebreaker. This will be at least my 3rd or 4th viewing since 2017 when it came out.  About 20mins in. I guess there’s something I like about this one since I inexplicably feel like watching it sometimes. The riffing is a bit thick and maybe trying a little too hard, but it’s not bad. Seriously Mia Farrow is such a bitch in this movie. These are such gross 70s swinger types. Farrow hooks up with other dude quickly.  She invites herself home with a guy. Ok, here we go. 51mins, idiot ice skating girls. The avalanche it’s a’comin! Skater looks like Katherine Ryan on ice! The ambulance driver is a really bad driver.  I do like this one. The riffing can be annoying and too much, but the hit ratio is very high overall. It’s definitely top tier.
