The Space Children

The Space Children mst906. B&W, 1958. Plus Century 21 short.

Century 21 short, color 1962. Mst906  Filmed at the Seattle World’s Fair!! This was at the same time as Elvis was there filming It Happened at the Worlds Fair! Neat! Well...not really. It's not like you see him in the background. This is about two scarily wholesome looking teens in an exhibit about phones and giant beepers. Funny riffing. Wow this is some old tech.  Pretty good short.

The Space Children:  Wow, Uncle Fester and The Professor are in this. Plot is a very unhappy couple and their kids move to a beach on a military base. Manhattan Project kinda thing--a missile. The kids on the base hang out in a cave on the beach and have seen and heard a UFO, but none of the adults. It’s pretty good so far.  There’s a glowing rock that communicates telepathically and elects one kid leader,  but his dad is a fucking asshole.  This is top tier stuff. The Professor turns out to be drunk abusive stepdad. He’s dead now. Glowy rock killed him. Rock appears to be friend to children, like Gamera. I really liked this one. The glowy rock became a big blob, but it disarmed every country on earth and then left, like Superman did in Superman 4 (or 3 or 2). This is top tier, top 30(?).   It’s a lot like the Peter Graves episodes—B&W and feels like an old Twilight Zone episode--in the best possible way.
