Carnival of Souls (Rifftrax live. Early 60s? colorized) Starts with 3 pretty girls in a car being asked to drag race some schmuck in next car over. They race across a bridge and the girls go over edge and into water. Credits. Search for car and girls. Only one cute blonde comes out of the water. Now she’s playing a giant pipe organ in a lumber warehouse. But she’s going to Utah to play organ for a church. She’s “never coming back”. One thing I’ll say, this seems like perfect riffing material. I could imagine MST3K doing this movie. Movie is legit creepy. But such a fun one! She starts having visions of some creepy corpse guy. She also gets weirdly fixated on an abandoned carnival/amusement park. There’s a super creepy wormy guy also staying at same boarding house. I really hate him. He’s creepy in a rapey way, not a fun way. She finally goes to the abandoned amusement park alone. She gets fired from organ playing for lack of soul. Now she’s on date with asshole neighbor guy. Hate this guy. He’s the worst. He’s an alcoholic and keeps trying to force girl to drink. Hard to watch this guy. Hope he gets killed. Luckily her insanity drives him away. So, turns out she was really dead all the time; they pull car out of river and she’s in it. Generally excellent. Perfect Halloween viewing. A genuinely bizarre and creepy movie (colorized quite well) and a fun riff.

Masks of Grass —the other weird 70s short, in color, included as part of the live Carnival of Souls riff. Another weird as hell one. Seems to be extolling the virtues of grass. It’s just fucking weird as fuck. Just Wow. Both of these shorts are extra crazy. Funny mostly on its own. It’s a crazy lord of the flies thing with children in grass masks.
