1961, color (beautiful picture, widescreen) Rifftrax. The requisite “cute” kids, usually named Kenny. There’s a boat again but this time a bigger one. A scientific expedition. The thing about Rifftrax is so many of their jokes are “groaners” And this is one I truly enjoy. In fact it’s one of their best imo. Almost halfway thru movie and no Mothra yet. But cute tiny Japanese singing twins. They get kidnapped and are part of a weird Vegas like act now. They sing the same Mothra song from Godzilla. (You should watch Godzilla vs the Sea Monster before, or maybe after this movie. I forget.) I guess Mothra is an egg still. This one gets better as it goes along. Fat kid in the Spridal/Chim-Chim hat is taking the twins now. This movie has really aged well. Budget seems larger than most of the Gameras and lesser Godzillas. Mothra is in a cocoon now. Really feels like old Mst3k once they’re in the rhythm of the movie. Mothra cocoon looks like a scrotum. It’s movies like this that Mst3k season 12 so desperately needed. The bad guy is killed because he pauses to take an old mans cane away just to be mean. This is certainly top tier of Rifftrax. It stands well against mst’s Godzilla vs the Sea Monster, so I guess its top tier generally.
